Description
Waterdog Red, crafted by the esteemed José Maria da Fonseca winery, pays homage to the intelligent and loyal Portuguese Waterdog from Portugal’s southern coast. This thoughtfully composed blend consists of 70% Castelão and 30% Touriga Nacional grapes, cultivated in the fertile clay-lime soils of the Setúbal Peninsula. The wine undergoes vinification with skin contact at 28ºC and matures for six months in both French and American oak barrels, enhancing its complexity. On the nose, it reveals floral aromas reminiscent of roses and violets, characteristic of Touriga Nacional. The palate is greeted with luscious red berry flavors, complemented by subtle smoky and spicy notes from the oak aging. Medium to full-bodied, Waterdog Red boasts smooth tannins and a long, elegant finish. With an alcohol content of 13%, this wine is best enjoyed at a serving temperature of 15ºC. It pairs exceptionally well with barbecued dishes, roasts, and hearty pasta meals. Beyond its delightful taste profile, Waterdog Red embodies the rich winemaking heritage of José Maria da Fonseca, a family-run winery since 1834, reflecting a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation.
