Created in 1874 by bartender Martin Wilkes Heron in New Orleans, Southern Comfort was initially called “Cuffs and Buttons.” The liqueur combines whiskey with a blend of fruits and spices, resulting in a distinctive flavor profile featuring notes of orange, peach, apricot, and cinnamon.Southern Comfort is available in various proofs, including the original 70 proof (35% ABV), Southern Comfort Black at 80 proof (40% ABV), and Southern Comfort 100 at 100 proof (50% ABV). It’s commonly enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or as a key ingredient in cocktails like the Scarlett O’Hara, Alabama Slammer, and Lynchburg Lemonade.
